Where the overnight stay should be
Karatu is often the practical overnight base after Tarangire. It gives you a place to rest and eat before setting off for the crater the following morning. A late start shortens that window. Try to leave Arusha after an early breakfast rather than sacrificing the park’s best available hours to a late hotel checkout.
At Ngorongoro the descent and ascent are controlled by park access rules and operating hours. Your guide plans the crater-floor circuit around the time permitted, the weather and road conditions. No operator can promise an exact rhino or lion sighting. If wildlife is quiet in one part of the crater, your guide may use the remaining time to explore another permitted route.
