Day 1 — Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Meet the safari team in Arusha and travel to Tarangire for the first game drive. The park is known for elephants, baobab trees and wildlife along the river, especially when surrounding areas are dry. After lunch and afternoon viewing, continue to the campsite arranged for the night. Dinner and the first evening under canvas follow the drive.

Day 2 — Lake Manyara and the Karatu area
Leave camp after breakfast and drive toward Lake Manyara National Park. Forest, birdlife and the lakeshore give this day a different feel from Tarangire. The guide will plan game-viewing stops around access conditions and the time available. Continue to the campsite near Manyara or Karatu for the evening meal and overnight stay.

Day 3 — Travel through the highlands to Serengeti
With the camping equipment packed, cross the Ngorongoro highlands and follow the road into Serengeti. There are park checks and long stretches of driving, so this is not described as a full game-drive day. Wildlife may be seen along the route before you reach the designated campsite. Set up for the first of several nights in Serengeti.

Day 4 — Full-day Serengeti game drives
After an early camp breakfast, spend the day exploring the Serengeti area chosen for your season and campsite. Your guide follows permitted tracks in search of grazing herds, predators and birdlife. Lunch may be served as a packed meal to avoid returning to camp in the middle of the day. The evening is for dinner and rest.

Day 5 — A second full day in Serengeti
Another day in Serengeti gives the guide room to explore a different habitat or stay longer at a productive sighting. This can be particularly worthwhile when wildlife has been quiet the previous day. Because there is no camp change tonight, there is more time for the drive and less time spent loading luggage.

Day 6 — Serengeti to the Ngorongoro highlands
Pack the tents after breakfast and begin the journey back toward the Ngorongoro area. The drive takes several hours and includes changing scenery, from savannah to cooler highlands. Stop for meals and photographs where practical. Reach the reserved campsite near the conservation area or Karatu before evening.

Day 7 — Ngorongoro Crater wildlife drive
Set off for Ngorongoro Crater and descend on the approved route for a game drive. The crater floor includes grassland, woodland and wetland habitats, where different animals can sometimes be seen in one outing. After the visit, continue toward the campsite arranged for the final night. Dinner marks the end of the wildlife-focused portion of the trip.

Day 8 — Breakfast, pack camp and return to Arusha
Enjoy breakfast, take down the camping equipment and drive back toward Arusha. The guide drops guests at the agreed point in town or at an onward transfer that has been arranged in advance. The journey is not designed around an early-morning flight; travellers flying out the same day should check their departure time before booking.

What to pack for the 8-Day Tanzania Camping Safari
Evenings around the Ngorongoro highlands can be chilly, while the roads through Serengeti may be dusty. Pack a warm layer, closed shoes, a torch or headlamp, sun protection and a small day bag for the vehicle. Keep valuables and medication in hand luggage during the journey. A power bank is useful when electricity at camp is limited.
