Arusha or Moshi to Tarangire National Park
Your driver-guide picks you up from your Arusha or Moshi hotel after breakfast. The drive to Tarangire takes roughly 2 to 3 hours from Arusha (around 120–150 km) or about 3.5 to 4 hours from Moshi, mostly tarmac with a graded final stretch. You'll reach Tarangire by late morning and spend the rest of the day on a game drive, with a packed lunch at a picnic site overlooking the Tarangire River.
We schedule the Tarangire game drive for the afternoon rather than rushing it in the morning — afternoon light along the river tends to bring elephants out to drink.
Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha or Moshi
After an early breakfast at the lodge, drive roughly 30 to 45 minutes to the Lake Manyara gate near Mto wa Mbu. The morning is spent on a game drive through groundwater forest, lakeshore floodplain, and acacia woodland, with a stop at the Hippo Pool. By early afternoon, begin the return drive to Arusha (about 2 to 2.5 hours) or Moshi (about 3.5 hours).
Tree-climbing lions are a genuine highlight but not a guaranteed sighting. The Hippo Pool and forest sightings are close to certain; the lions are a bonus.

Tarangire covers roughly 2,600 km² southwest of Arusha and is best known for one of the highest elephant densities in East Africa. The Tarangire River is the area's main permanent water source, drawing large herds during the dry season (June–October) along with giraffe, zebra, buffalo, and the predators that follow them. The park's centuries-old baobab trees give the landscape a distinctive, almost prehistoric character. Tarangire sees fewer visitors than Serengeti or Ngorongoro, for a quieter game drive.
Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara is a compact park of around 325–330 km², roughly two-thirds of which is the alkaline lake itself.
